What One Thing Makes A Great Networker?

Whу is it that wе are соmfоrtаblе starting a conversation with a соnvеnіеnсе ѕtоrе cashier, a stranger, but whеn it comes tо approaching and tаlkіng tо a ѕtrаngеr at a networking funсtіоn, we seize up?
Tаlkіng tо ѕtrаngеrs as we gо аbоut our daily business doesn’t ѕееm tо be a major рrоblеm for us, but when іt соmеѕ tо formal nеtwоrkіng wе have difficulty dealing with the fear and uncertainty of the process.
You would think that It’ѕ thе ѕаmе thing, wouldn’t you?
Well, it is sort оf…
Fіrѕtly, wе’rе nоt trying to іmрrеѕѕ the реrѕоn that we’re chatting with аt the local convenience ѕtоrе, BUT we mау bе trуіng tо іmрrеѕѕ that рrоѕресt аt а nеtwоrkіng funсtіоn because we feel that they have a greater importance to us.
Whеn wе’rе at a business networking funсtіоn, wе’rе trуіng tо ѕtаrt building thаt very іmроrtаnt buѕіnеѕѕ relationship thаt соuld ultіmаtеlу lead tо a ѕаlе.
Whether you аrе seasoned business owner or ѕоmеоnе juѕt starting out, buѕіnеѕѕ networking IS the kеу to уоur success.
Some реорlе might say that it’s “whо уоu know”, thаt’ѕ important аt a networking function. Others would say that іt’ѕ “whо knоwѕ уоu”, thаt’ѕ іmроrtаnt. I would say that it’s a bit of both… and yоu want to mаkе ѕurе that рlеntу of the people that you know, also knоw whо уоu аrе and whаt уоu рrоvіdе.
Sо whаt’ѕ thе key tо being a ѕuссеѕѕful nеtwоrkеr?
Well, іt’ѕ not really rocket ѕсіеnсе…
All уоu hаvе to do іѕ lіѕtеn and ask really good questions about them.
Pеорlе lіkе tо tаlk about thеmѕеlvеѕ аnd if you саn learn to listen, аnd ask really grеаt open-еndеd questions using the six sentinels for great conversations the whо, why, what, where, when and how, then уоu саn bеcome a grеаt networker.
Sо, become a bеttеr lіѕtеnеr аnd you’ll bесоmе a better nеtwоrkеr.
Happy networking!

There Is Always A Way.

Despite all the current challenges that exist in the world today, for those who are passionate and determine there is always a way.

In business just as in life, the most adaptable will not only survive, but thrive and succeed in any environment despite what may be going on around them, physically, emotionally or financially.

The three most powerful pillars of success in ANY business, no matter what the size are:

  1. A robust and adaptable system.

Having been someone who rebelled against any system that came my way, I successfully generator the whole heap of failure pain and disappointment that I could ever hope to achieve.

And when I was truly successful, I discovered that a robust and adaptable system underpinned that success with a solid foundation.

If you haven’t got a system or a good system… then I passionately recommended that you take the time and develop a process that will support and leverage your future success.

  1. Transferable education.

I never truly understood what transferable education actually meant, until I found myself in a job that tapped into a wide variety of skills that I had learnt throughout my life.

I was amazed to realise that’s my public speaking skills, my ability to write, being passionate about customer service and genuinely wanting people to succeed were transferable skills that allowed me to create significant success in my chosen profession.

  1. Accountability (Watch this space for a future article)

Accountability is a very interesting and misunderstood concept.

I highly recommend that you find and digest the definition of accountability, but please understand that accountability is not just about your own accountability to yourself (even though this can be the most challenging), but being accountable to your friends, to your family, your staff, but most importantly to your clients.

Please remember though…

No business is a business without people, and the most important things that help people develop and maintain great relationships that are adaptable… well…

Just add… smiles, hugs and coffee… LOL

Let’s Create A Better Attitude

I have said it before, that my real hope for the future is that people actually stop… and start to think before opening their mouths or posting stuff without thinking about the source or checking the facts…

Thanks to a media that no longer takes any social, moral or ethical consideration for what they write… people have become more narrow minded, bigoted, racist and fearful…

Here are some simple truths… ones that DO need to be considered…

Not ALL black folks are criminals…

Not ALL white people are racist…

Not ALL police are bad…

Not ALL opinions… no matter the source are the truth…

Ignorance and fear comes in ALL colours and styles…

Please REMEMBER… one persons truth is almost always another persons opinion…

Courage, respect, willingness to learn and share and thoughtful consideration… will ALWAYS create a better world that the one we are currently seeing…

Blessings…

Why Is Business Networking Confusing?

Business networking like social media, means so many different things to so many different people and because of this, there is a lot of confusion in the marketplace about what it is, what it is used for, and how effective it can be.

I can understand when people use the term “networking”, and they put a great deal of emphasis on coffee catch ups, social networking, getting together for drinks etc…

But when you confuse this with “Business Networking” then it can create a problem because expectations can be very different.

In the last few months I have had the privilege of engaging with 273 people and asking them all a very simple question.

That question was:

“What is your understanding of business networking?”

Interestingly, there is no wrong answer to this question, however, in my opinion, only two people actually nailed the most appropriate answer to the question.

Many people said it was to make connections, to make a sales pitch, to build relationships, to build my database and so on… each of these are a valuable perception.

As I stated earlier, there is no wrong answer!

Two people on the other hand categorically stated that business networking was a system.

You see… they understood that “networking” isn’t a verb… ie. “I’m going networking!”

They understood that “networking” in a noun… that describes a process… ie. “I’m going out to network.”

A system that is not just valuable in business, but needs to be used by everyone, in everyday life, in every situation where we connect and communicate with others.

In fact, everything we do with other people is the process of networking… building relationships.

Most people don’t actually understand the real importance of “networking” in their lives, and they are never taught the fundamentals of developing an effective networking system that will help them build good quality relationships with people.

The system has a number of components, the first of which is actually getting an understanding of why we network and why it is so important in our lives.

Remember – every time you connect with somebody… you are starting an amazing relationship journey… enjoy.
